A recent Stratford on Avon Kitchen

The Brief
A huge extension to the back of the house presented a complete blank canvas in terms of kitchen design. The clients knew they wanted a centrepiece island as the main workhorse of the kitchen, where food could be prepared whilst chatting to family/guests. They also wanted an informal dining area incorporated into this, and they liked the sleek minimalist look of a handleless kitchen. They also wanted to have a stand out notable feature, but weren’t sure what this could be.

The Result
A handleless Bauformat Calais kitchen in the warm, earthy tones of Nougat silky matt, with a four seater breakfast bar island.Originally the kitchen was positioned by the architect as the first area off the hall which you would walk through. Mark changed this position so the initial vision of the extension is a ‘Homes & Garden’ vista of the garden through the wall to ceiling glass doors, with the kitchen cunningly hidden to one side. The location of the island and seating area means that friends and family can sit and stand chatting to the chef whilst food is prepared, with an upstand providing a natural boundary. The island also gave Mark the ‘stand out’ feature’ as he incorporated a back lit glass panel which runs the length of the upstand. During the evening this provides

a soft light as well as accentuating the stunning island. Plinth and under cabinet lights add to the atmosphere. Guests are impressed by the pop-up downdraft extractor seated in the cimstone quartz worktop in front of the large Caple induction hob. Other factors of the kitchen design which have been a great hit are the positioning of the dishwasher and plate drawers next to each other, and also the fact of being able to store plates in a drawer, spaced by dividers instead of in a cupboard. The choice of the Kutna Mosaic tiled splashback from Dune Ceramics perfectly brings together the visual palette and texture of the whole kitchen.

The Feedback
“I just love the layout of this kitchen, it works so well”. “We didn’t know where to start but Mark gave us so many ideas and creative solutions”. “It has been a fantastic experience”.
