The clients had seen the blue corian worktop and knew that was a ‘must’. From that, the colour scheme and layout was worked out with Mark, the designer, incorporating a few other ‘must have’s’ such as the plinth lighting and space for a large table with seating for four. The overall brief was that the kitchen should be light, bright and airy with plenty of storage.
A Bauformat Cube handleless kitchen in Colorado white with blue corian worktops and an ultra long glass splashback.
The clients had spotted a spectacular round table and chairs perfect for the kitchen, and wanted the design to leave comfortable traffic space around these. Therefore a U shape was out and Mark designed instead a medium height bank of units on the back wall, which incorporate Neff double ovens and a fridge and allowed for wall cupboard space above. Extra storage was accomplished by building in a double recessed tall cupboard with pullouts behind the kitchen door, which fits flush with the kitchen wall.
The clients knew that they needed more food preparation room, so the sink was moved nearer to the work triangle of the hobs and fridge, freeing up a long run of worktop. The client prefers cooking with gas so a large Neff hob was installed over roomy storage drawers.
The colour scheme was very carefully worked out. The clients took a sample of the corian to be paint-matched for the walls and the back of the glass splashback was also painted in the same colour. There are three shades of blue in the kitchen, and the electrician also matched the colour of the plinth and undercupboard lights. The decision to extend the glass splashback beyond the edge of the hobs was taken as the clients didn’t want to break up the line of the corian upstand. Contrasting black 45 x 45 mm Tema porcelain tiles complete the look.
The final ‘must have’ on the list was ticked as the ceiling has built-in speakers routed to a main server which can be activated by i-phone/pads.
‘We are very pleased with the end result – the service was fantastic. We had a few problems with the installation of the corian, but Mark got the fitters to come back and we got the finish we wanted. Putting in the glass was heartstopping as it was such a long piece, I couldn’t watch. But the template was perfect and Matt the fitter slotted it in on the first go’.
