Having lived with a traditional painted kitchen previously, the clients wanted a sleek, ultra-modern kitchen which would contrast with their character Cotswold home. They liked the clean lines of a handleless kitchen, and wanted the main focal point to be a feature island. They also wanted a spacious utility room fitted in the same style.
A striking, sleek Bauformat Calais Nougat handleless kitchen in silky matt finish with a centrepiece island and an eye-catching purple glass splashback.
The clients chose the creamy, variegated Capri New Silestone (30mm thick) for the worktops, having previously had black granite. The work surface of the island is broken only by a Starck undermounted sink with an X-trend tap and Quooker instant boiling water tap. ‘Perfect for cooking both vegetables and pasta, the Quooker tap really speeds things up,’ comments the client. An overhang was designed to create a breakfast bar, and the island houses a dishwasher, double bins and spacious storage drawers, including a inner large cutlery drawer and plate drawer.
The kitchen design had to incorporate an existing double American fridge, which is flanked by tall cupboards, one of which contains pullouts and the other, shelving, with a further cupboard above.
Double ovens both with warming drawers sit next to each other on one side of the induction hob. Large pan drawers sit under these and easily fit all the client’s pans and large cooking utensils.
The client wanted a separate coffee preparation area, so a tall unit was designed with a roller shutter and shelves and a work surface which is home to the coffee machine and microwave.
The colour of the splashback was carefully chosen from Opticolour to contrast with the kitchen’s silky-grey door finish.
Bigger than the average kitchen the utility room was fitted out before the kitchen, so the clients could use it as a temporary food prep. area during the build. They chose stainless steel handles on the units for a more practical feel, and 20 mm slimmer worktop in the same Silestone. Wall cupboards provide extra storage for this space which, if such a term as ‘utility room envy’ exists, surely is a perfect candidate.
“Excellent. We had no issues and any minor problems were quickly resolved to our satisfaction”.
